Our mission is to ensure the safe use of paraffin, as part of the energy mix for domestic users. We will achieve this through strategic partnerships, research and promotion of safe practices from the point of manufacture to the point of consumption of domestic energy. In order to accomplish this mission, we have divided our work into the following key Service Delivery Programmes that are responsible for conceptualizing and carrying out projects that bring us closer to our objective:
Public Communications Programme (PCP)
- The purpose of this programme is to coordinate all media, publications and communications projects of PASASA.
- It is to position PASASA to be visible and audible.
- It is to streamline our communications messages across the whole organisation and ensure that there are no ambiguities to our messaging.
- Develop communications strategies for PASASA to deal with our various stakeholders.
- To work with oil companies’ communications departments.
Community Engagement Programme (CEP)
- The programme is our interface with communities, local authorities, and energy and paraffin users on the ground.
- It is to deliver on our community awareness, education, training and information dissemination projects.
- It is to interact with local hospitals, mortuaries and clinics to collect household energy related injury data as part of our surveillance system.
- It is to lobby and advocate among local councilors and provincial governments and other stakeholders to ensure household energy safety.
- It is to establish partnerships to ensure our interventions and legacy are sustained.
- It is to deepen the implementation of our Area Specific Intervention.
- Conduct social and scientific surveillance work.
Scientific, Technical, Education, Research and Industry Programme (STERIP)
- The purpose of the programme is to coordinate and conduct researched solutions to the Household energy safety problems.
- It is to deal with all related industries.
- It is to participate in the development of new paraffin fuel and appliance standards.
- It is to deal with all the packaging and labeling issues.
- It is to handle all the technical issues such as working with the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of SAPIA.
- Work with hospitals and clinics, South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).
- Implement our Surveillance for Impact System.
- To monitor industry compliance with standards and SABS enforcement of standards.
- Establish an Industry Association for safe Household Energy appliances.
Public Policy and Advocacy Programme (PPAP)
- To develop and implement a lobbying and advocacy programme.
- The purpose of this programme is to engage with government on energy policy issues pertaining to paraffin and household energy safety.
- It is to inform the government about the views of paraffin users.
- To track relevant pieces of legislation and make comments.
- To make presentations to parliamentary committees.
- To forge advocacy partnerships.
- To help the regional offices with their work with provincial governments.
